HEATING EQUIPMENT
Combustion of pellets takes place in a new generation boiler. It guarantees comfort of use and efficiency. The efficiency of boilers which burn only pellets usually exceeds 90%. Depending on their type and size pellet boilers can generate heating rated power of 5 to 75kW for individual users and heating units with 300 to 800 KW for institutional users. There are a lot of types of boilers available in the market with different controls and tank sizes as well as prices.
In general the principles of operations are as follows:
- Pellets from the fuel tank assembled to each boiler are transferred and fed (usually with the use of a feeding screw) in appropriate amount to the combustion chamber. Next they are self-ignited. Due to very effective techniques of combustion pellets are burned highly efficiently, generating energy and leaving small amounts of ash.
- The operations of the boiler are virtually service free and for sure it requires less effort than solid fuel boilers. In the case of small and the cheapest boilers where the boiler is connected with a small tank, the main task of the operator is to replenish the fuel tank, when the boiler heats with maximum power, and in regular operation condition - once every 4 to 7 days. The use of boilers equipped with additional installation, feeding pellets from the tank, where the fuel is stored all year round, makes the operations of the boiler virtually service free. All the operator has to do then is turn the boiler on and set the needed temperature. Apart from that another benefit of pellets is very small amount of ash. Cleaning of the pellet boiler burner and removal of ash is done much more seldom than with other central heating boilers. Furthermore, some boilers have a self-cleaning feature.
- Application of combustion safety systems in boilers is a standard. Such systems include flashback protection system preventing the flame from igniting pellets in the fuel tank, or a system preventing heating water above admissible temperature. Fire protection systems such as automatic water or powder sprinklers are also used.
- In order to use the water heating function the boilers shall be equipped with a special container. Despite the fact that it requires additional installation such a solution is more convenient and more efficient as in the summer when the building is not heated we can use the water heating function only. Operations of the boiler are then reduced to minimum and include mainly heat maintenance. This mode ensures a very efficient use of fuel.
- Pellet boiler's controls consist in automatic control and regulation of combustion. In order to make the combustion more efficient sufficient amount of air is supplied with the use of fans. Fuel feeders are also automatically controlled. Depending on the level of boiler automation there are a lot of functions, for example: ambient temperature sensors, weather sensors, fumes temperature sensors, ets.
In sum pellet boilers are: SAFE, EFFICIENT, ECOLOGICAL and virtually service free.
